How To Use LeakShot For Sealing Leaks
LeakShot is our proprietary liquid composition for sealing leaks that uses the pressure of the body of water to make the formula form a bond. It stops water-flow moving through virtually any substance:
- Cement
- Gunite
- Vinyl
- Plastic
- Fiberglass
- Wood
- Polythylene
… and more.
LeakShot is a solution used for sealing leaks that don’t require structural repair. This includes a variety of applications for sealing cracks, holes and leaks. LeakShot adheres to the leaking substance and cures to form a tough and long-lasting seal. Leaks pouring through spaces as wide as 1/8th of an inch (3 mm) in diameter will allow our sealant to coagulate and form a seal.
Typical pools (Fiberglass, Gunite, Cement, Vinyl, etc.) should use a full bottle (32 oz./1 quart) to ensure a seal. This serves as much as 22,000 gallons of water. Larger pools should use increased application for a more positive effect. It’s recommended to use 4 oz. (250 ml) for each 250 gallons of water.
Pools and basins that lose an average of 1/4 inch and up to a maximum of 2 inches of water per day are prime candidates for using Leakshot. Larger water losses may reveal a broken pipe, large structural crack or faulty equipment that simply can’t be sealed with a liquid sealant. If this is your case, seek a professional leak detection specialist and prepare for the expense of digging to find your leak.
LeakShot has been proven to work in all weather conditions. With extensive testing and years of proven use, Leakshot leads the industry in the leak sealant market. With a price that is a fraction of ripping up cement and draining your water, it only makes sense to take a shot with Leakshot before reaching for a shovel. Your wallet will appreciate it.
Sealing Leaks In Pools And Basins
LeakShot is a thick fluid and should be shaken thoroughly for several minutes before use to ensure the best results.
Before applying LeakShot, you need to bypass your pool’s filter to prevent filtering out the liquid being poured into the pool. Set multi-port valves to recirculate. If this isn’t possible, remove the DE Filter element or filter cartridge and allow the water to flow through the empty filter tank. Pour LeakShot in the area of your leak, or if you haven’t isolated it in the shell, LeakShot should be added to the skimmer, main drain or other water intake while the pump is running in recirculation mode.
LeakShot is viscous and heavier than water. This may cause the fluid to sink toward the bottom of the basin when it flows back in from the skimmer. Set the water intake to close off the skimmers and use only the main drain. If there is no main drain, attach a pool vacuum to the skimmer and set it in the deep end or in the center of the pool. Brush the fluid around the pool every couple of hours while the pump is running to keep LeakShot in suspension and circulating to the pressure of the leak. Keep the pump running and circulating until there is evidence that the leak has ceased.
While LeakShot can seal leaks in smaller basins and structures in just 24 hours, larger pools and basins require more time. Check water loss daily for two to four days to see if it has reduced, or stopped water loss. One good way to do this is to mark the water level with tape before starting your application. It will allow you to gauge water loss in a visually measurable way.
Even though your measurement may reveal a stopped leak, give Leakshot two to four days to completely harden and form its seal. As the fluid is carried out of the leak, it reduces the size of the leak until it’s formed a seal. As it dries, the fluid hardens to form a more permanent bond. You must give it time to ensure the best results. Once your application is complete, simply return to normal filtration and cleaning of your pool to remove any excess LeakShot fluid before swimming and enjoying your leak free pool.
Remember to return the multi-port valve back to it’s filtering position and resume standard filtration (and replace the DE Filter). Backwash your pool daily for the next 2-3 days, while brushing the floor. Cartridge filters should be cleaned daily for the next 2-3 days during this process. Do not allow the wet cartridge to dry out without a complete cleaning rinse, long term exposure to air will cause excess LeakShot to dry and harden. For best results, don’t allow the filter grids to dry out before completely rinsing them free of the excess LeakShot. If it hardens, it’s there forever.
In extreme, but sealable situations, this process may need to be repeated to get a permanent fix.
